Component 1 Blog Critical Reflection Questions and Student Self-Assessment

Understanding and explaining, how media products construct and communicate meanings, through close analysis of the interaction of media language and audience responses.

Objective:

To introduce students to the Component 1 critical reflection questions, closed analysis of a media product created by Media Studies candidates and to self-reflect on their media product.

Other goals:

·        It provides an insight into how the technical elements and media concepts are used to create meaning with the purpose of targeting an audience.

·        Students will also develop and analyze how they used their practical skills using software and hardware technology to complete their media products.

1. What is the purpose of the Component 1 blog website in reference to your syllabus is? (Read the syllabus.)

The purpose of my Component 1 blog website is to show proof and evidence of the steps I took to do my work, such as the research, planning, and production. At the end of this component, I will reflect t on my finished media project and answer questions on my blog.

2. Who is the audience? (Read the syllabus.)

The target audience(s) is/are Cambridge who will be reading the blog, as well as the teacher of this class.

A blog is a website that publishes content on posts, and in this case evidence of my work.

A blog is new media otherwise known as online media.

Four Conventions of a Blog Website

How does your blog construct and communicate meanings through close analysis of the interaction of media language and audience responses? (Think about the purpose and target audience.)

      What is purpose of the blog and how did you use media language (Design, arrangement and content)?

      How does my blog engage my target audience? How do you want your audience to respond to your blog.

1. Home Page

6. The important of the homepage is to communicate that my media product is themed off me as well as my characteristics. It also sets the tone of my blog letting readers know that I am a teenager who likes darker, fantasy stuff.

7. The media language I used to engage my audience are verbal communication due to the text that I add to my blog posts and visual codes such as the personalization of my blog home page like the background, as well as the color and font of text.

2. Design: Design template design and arrangement, colors, font (style, color and size), and background image.

8.  The design template I used was window pictures because I enjoy the way it is set up and it looks like a blog you would see from earlier social media

9. The colors I chose are cool-toned colors such as purple and blue with a little bit of deep pink because I enjoy how the colors look together, and they are cohesive.

10. Choosing the Times New Roman font, shows that I want my blog to look more official by choosing a professional font.

11. The background image, I selected is influenced by my likeness of dark forests and mushrooms. I like mushrooms/forest stuff because they look more whimsical, but in a way that involves nature.

13. My first blog is about welcoming Cambridge to my blog and describing what Media Studies is about, as well as talking about some media forms. The main aim is to engage my audience, for the purpose of informing them about Media Studies and things involving media.

16. Three reasons are that Blogger is extremely accessible, so you just have to make an account with a Gmail to use it, it’s free so you don’t have to pay for it, and it is reliable with easy-to-use tools and settings.

      List two other new media products that could you have used to distribute my component 1 content.
